Blog #1- The New Sunday Routine
The day started at 12:15 AM, which was pretty early for Rose. Like most people her age, the first thing she did upon waking up was check her phone: no new notifications. This was strange because business had picked up a lot in the last few days after the... incident.
Nevertheless, Rose decided to have a productive day. She started by putting away all the stray clothes that had accumulated on her floor, the heels and mini skirts that were remnants from the week. Next she washed the sheets and made the bed. After about 30 minutes of work, Rose figured she deserved a break and went down to the coffee shop in the lobby of her apartment building.
"Ow!" she exclaimed as an exposed pipe in the hallway to the elevator collided with her foot and knocked her to the ground. While sitting on the grimy carpet, she thought about the wad of bills stashed behind her socks and underwear. She imagined it like a living animal, expanding week by week. Until one day, it would be big enough that she could move the hell out of the Foxberry.
"A few more months of work," she mumbled and pulled herself off the floor. As she poured her coffee in the lobby, her phone started chiming with her sister's ringtone.
"Rosie!" her sister chirped before the phone was even to Rose's ear. "How are you? We miss you!"
"I miss you, too, Liv."
"What have you been up to? Things here are good as usual, except that Johnny asked me to the fall formal before Tom could, so now I don't know who to go with." Olivia spoke with such gusto that Rose didn't notice Old Man Jenkins walk in the lobby, see the back of Rose's curly blonde head, and immediately walk out. "And mom is losing it because apparently Johnny's parents don't go to church! Speaking of mom, have you talked to her recently?"
"Um, no..." as if on cue, Rose's phone started ringing with another incoming call. It was Robert Randall. "Look, Liv, I got to go. Love you."
"Hello," Rose said to the other line.
"Now?" her changed tone echoed through the lobby.
"Okay, I will be there in a few." she said, and hung up the phone.
